Maple Ridge Farm relocated to Laura and Nathan’s permanent residence the fall of 2017, but has been in operation since Laura started Maple Ridge Farm in 2003. Maple Ridge Farm is a family-friendly full-service equestrian facility with three trainers/instructors, twelve horses, and over 30 lesson students. We are a family-friendly facility with a professional, wholesome environment for students of all ages. We have an active 4-H horse club for ages 7-18, attend various local shows throughout the year, and host farm parties a few times a year.

Manager, Trainer, & Veterinarian - Laura Smith brings over 20 years of well-rounded equine experience to Maple Ridge Farm. Laura grew up riding hunter/jumpers in the Raleigh area, dabbled in dressage, and transitioned to Western and reining horses over 10 years ago. She has trained and shown with numerous respected and world-renown trainers in the horse industry. Laura loves learning, teaching, and sharing her passion of horses and riding with others through her unique boarding, lesson, and training programs. Laura loves helping students reach their goals!

In addition to Laura’s hands-on experience, she is a 2012 valedictorian graduate of NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Poultry Science, and graduated from NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in equine medicine. She and her husband, Nathan Smith, manage a mobile large and small animal veterinary practice (Maple Ridge Mobile Veterinary Services, PLLC), in addition to managing the farm and teaching lessons.

Manager & Trainer - Nathan Smith developed a passion for horses at an early age and pursued his natural talents with horses while training with Laura. Nate has a natural gift for riding, training, and teaching. He joined Maple Ridge Farm part-time in 2012 and full-time in 2016. He is an integral part of our farm and business management and lesson program.

Not only is Nate a talented rider, he is also a very talented designer. After graduating from Wingate University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Marketing, he started his own company, Tradition Clothing Outfitters. He designed the first line of apparel for the farm. He also has a passion for photography, and some of his photos and editing is showcased in the farm's photo albums.

Assistant Manager & Trainer - Kaitlyn Roberts joined our team as assistant manager and trainer after graduating NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, class of 2017. Kaitlyn has been riding for over 5 years with a predominate focus on English, jumping, and some dressage. She has experience with summer horse camps, therapeutic riding programs, and equine husbandry. Kaitlyn has grown tremendously as a rider, instructor, and trainer since joining our team. She enjoys both jumping and barrel racing, and has also found a new passion in training horses. She helps keep our lesson horses performing at their best and assists with training horses under the guidance of Laura Smith. Kaitlyn is an integral part of our programs and assists in every aspect of our equestrian services. In Kaitlyn’s spare time, she enjoys reading, puzzles, photography, church choir, and time with family and friends.
