Maple Ridge Farm relocated to Laura and Nathan’s permanent residence the fall of 2017, but has been in operation since Laura started Maple Ridge Farm in 2003. Maple Ridge Farm is a family-friendly full-service equestrian facility with three trainers/instructors, fifteen horses, and over 30 lesson students. We are a family-friendly facility with a professional, wholesome environment for students of all ages. We have an active 4-H horse club for ages 7-18, attend various local shows throughout the year, and host farm shows and events throughout the year.

Head Instructor, Manager, & Trainer - Madison Bottoms joined Maple Ridge Farm in 2018 as farm manager, head lesson instructor, and trainer. We are very excited to have her knowledge, enthusiasm, and professionalism. She is very passionate about horses and her students, and it shows! Madison is an active participant in every aspect of Maple Ridge Farm and is dedicated to constantly growing as an equine professional and making Maple Ridge Farm the best it can be! Madison has been riding horses since she was 5 years old. She grew up riding and showing Saddlebreds before she transitioned to barrel racing in high school. In 2013, Madison graduated from Barton University with a degree in Gerontology. She was also Miss Southern Horse Festival representing the NC Horse Council that same year. From 2012 to 2014, Madison participated as a NC Horse Council Trail Horse Challenge judge. And from 2014 to 2016, she coached for the equestrian Special Olympics on Johnston county’s team with her horse, Sophie. Madison and her husband, Brenten, have 4 barrel horses of their own. Madison has two project ponies, and plans to finish them to the barrel pattern this year. Be on the look out for them in the show pen!

Manager, Trainer, & Veterinarian - Laura Smith brings over 20 years of well-rounded equine experience to Maple Ridge Farm. Laura grew up riding and showing hunter/jumpers in the Raleigh area, dabbled in dressage, and transitioned to Western and reining horses in high school. She has trained and shown with numerous respected and world-renown trainers in the horse industry. Laura loves learning, teaching, and sharing her passion of horses and riding with others through her unique boarding, lesson, and training programs. She enjoys showing her horse, West Coast Spirit, in both reining and barrel events. In addition to Laura’s hands-on experience, she is a 2012 valedictorian graduate of NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Poultry Science, and is a Class of 2016 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in equine medicine. Laura owns and operates Maple Ridge Mobile Veterinary Services, a mobile equine veterinary practice, with her husband, Nathan, in addition to being an active part of Maple Ridge Farm.

Manager - Nathan Smith is a 2008 graduate from Wingate University with a Bachelor of Marketing. He formerly worked for Stanley Black & Decker in outside sales, before starting full-time with Maple Ridge Farm in 2016. Nathan developed a passion for horses at an early age and started pursuing horseback riding while training with Laura. Nate has a natural gift with horses, and started training and reining the same year he started riding. Nate is an integral part of our farm and veterinary business management. He is also the mastermind behind keeping our farm looking its best. We could not maintain our facilities without his assistance! In his spare time, Nate enjoys playing with our miniature Aussies, Alex and Allie, and watching movies.
