The mission at MRF is to provide a safe, fun, premier learning environment to help students of all ages and levels reach their riding goals and become proficient horsemen. All students are taught safe and proper horse handling practices on the ground before learning and mastering fundamental riding skills under saddle. Students will learn detailed control of each horse's "buttons" and develop correct equitation and build confidence which will allow students to apply their skillset to any discipline. Our lesson program is equipped with a few proven, quiet, show quality horses that make excellent, safe teachers. Most of our students own their own horses. We are happy to help you find your perfect horse! We occasionally offer horses for lease or for sale, too. Vivi Whiskette (2011 AQHA dun mare pictured above and below) is available for your consideration!
Students are encouraged to participate in our show team in order to complete their learning experience, gain new skills, ride horses under new circumstances, and set goals for themselves and their horse. MRF attends at least two shows a month, year-round. We also host schooling shows at our farm.
Our mission is to provide the very best in equine management. Areas of importance include safety, top quality nutrition (top quality forage first), individualized care for every horse, cleanliness, and organization. Full-care pasture, stall, and rehabilitation boarding is available. Boarding plans are tailored to meet your horse’s individual needs. At this time we only offer boarding services to our lesson and training clients, or horses here for rehabilitation.
We specialize in finishing and conditioning horses for pleasure riding or showing. Our training program teaches every horse correct body control, balance, and cadence, slowly building upon each horse's skillset and confidence. We can tune up your trail horse, pattern your barrel horse, teach your horse the basics of reining and ranch riding or trail, or teach your horse to jump. Consignments welcome!
Parties and group events welcome! Ponies and horses are available for guests of all ages. Parties, events, and pony rides are scheduled year-round. One, two, and three horse and/or pony packages are available. Pony rides are available on an hourly basis. Our pony, Cookie, is available for on-site lease!
Summer camps and track-out camps are offered throughout the year for beginners through advanced riders. Stay tuned for details about December 2020 camps!
Our mission is to provide the very best in equine management. At this time we only offer boarding services to our lesson and training clients, or veterinary clients seeking equine rehabilitation.
Care, cleanliness, and security – Farm owners/managers and equine veterinarian live on-site. Our horse caretakers are the very best and will take care of your horse like he/she is their very own. Our property has cameras throughout, for ultimate security and peace of mind.
Top quality forage – Feeding top quality timothy/orchard grass hay from NY is the staple for our horses' diets. Each horse receives free-choice hay (20-30 pounds hay per day) from slow feeders and never goes more than 6 hours without forage, to reduce the risk of gastric ulcers. In addition to quality hay, we work hard to maintain quality grass pastures, year-round, and plant rye grass for the fall and winter seasons.
Grain & feeds – All horses' forage-based diets are supplemented with a ration balancer to meet their vitamin and mineral needs, which also includes probiotics and biotin for healthy gut and hooves. Each horse also receives a daily fat/omega supplement. This allows us to feed small meals and low grain diets, which promote healthy stomachs and prevents gastric ulcers. "Hard keepers" receive additional grain, HorseLic product, and/or soaked hay pellets, as needed, to maintain an ideal body weight (5/9 body condition score).
Supplements – All horses receive free-choice access to mineral blocks and receive psyllium for one week out of every month, to prevent sand accumulation in their gut and to prevent sand colic. MRF offers additional supplements such as electrolytes, joint supplements, U-Gard, at a low additional monthly fee. Additional supplements provided by owner will be fed at no additional charge.
Fly control – MRF uses Fly Predators and feed-through fly supplement, ClariFly® (built into our ration balancer), during fly season. We aim to keep flies at a minimum.
Blanketing – Blanketing is included in full stall board and is available for an additional monthly charge for pasture boarded horses.
Farrier & Veterinary Appointments – Dr. Laura Smith, owner and manager of MRF, lives on-site and attends to the veterinary needs of MRF horses. There is no charge for holding and meeting our farm farrier. Owner is responsible for the cost of all veterinary and farrier services at time of service.
